Recommended walks

These walks are all taken from the new map, "Strand kommune med Preikestolen". The map can be bought at the Tourist Information Office.

Pulpit Rock (Preikestolen) (4 hours - Medium)

Start at the car park at Preikestolhytta. A very good path with some steep, rocky parts. Mainly easy walking. Fantastic view from the Pulpit Rock over the Lysefjord.

 

Refsvatnet (2 hours - Medium)

Start at the hostel, Preikestolhytta. Good path, a little marshy at the beginning. Pass the disused farm, Torsnes. Follow the lake Refsvatnet back to the hostel.

 

Moslifjellet (3 hours - Medium)

Start at the car park at Preikestolhytta. Two marked paths to the top 718m above sea level. We recommend that you follow the path towards the Pulpit Rock until you come to a new signpost at Krogabekkmyra. This is the easier climb and will be rewarded with magnificent views.

Ulvaskog (3 hours - Medium)

Start from the car park at Botsheia. Follow Rv 13, the path begins approximately 100m in the direction Oanes. A good path, undulating and marshy. Restored woodland hut, originally a log cabin used by the resistance group during the last war.

Hatten (2 hours - Medium)

Start as for Ulvaskog. Follow the same path for about 20 minutes. New signpost and marked path in easy mountain terrain. Hatten is 406m above sea level and a panorama awaits you over the Lysefjord and Forsand.


Hesten (3 hours - Medium)

Start at Botsheia. Well marked path in easy terrain to lake Mjåvatnet. The path continues on more marshy ground on the left hand side of the lake. An easy climb to the top 421m above sea level. To the west a view of Lerang-Kvalvåg and to the north Jørpeland.

Selemork (1 hour - Easy)

An easy trip for the whole family. Start at the power station, go over the bridge. The path is a woodland path which you can follow up to the old farm, Selemork. Ideal for a picnic.


Førlandsåsen (2 hours - Medium)

Start at Storåfoss by the water pipe. Well marked path all the way to Førlandsåsen. Steep climb with undulating terrain. View over Jørpeland and the surrounding fjords.


Guromyrfjell (3 hours - Medium)

Start from Storåfoss at the water pipe. Follow the path up Kjellbrekk to the lake Tintusvatnet. Quite steep in some places. Follow the path to lake Homstjønn and then up to Guromyrfjell. Extremely rocky down towards Dalen.

Utsiktsvegen (1 hour - Easy)

Follow signposts to Leite. Park at the sign for "Utsiktsvegen". A gravel dirt road, flat and easy. Suitable for children in prams. Views over Jørpeland and the local islands.

 

Reinaknuten (5 hours - Demanding)

Parking at the end of the road at "Bjørheimshei". The path is marked. There are a couple of steep inclines but the terrain is mostly easy and dry. Views over large areas of Ryfylke. Steep ravine down to lake Tysdalsvatnet.

 

Gramsfjell (1 hour - Easy)

Start at the car park at "Bjørheimshei". Follow the path towards Reinaknuten, but fork right at the signpost "Gramsfjell". This is a round trip in easy terrain.

Almåsen (2 hours - Medium)

Parking on the Leite road approximately 100m from the turn off to "Bjørheimshei". Easy, dry terrain to the summit 401m above sea level. Great views towards Bjørheimsbygd, Holta and the west.

Liarvatnet (3 hours - Easy)

Excellent family trip starting from the car park in Dalen. The path is well marked along the lake Liarvatnet and leads to Grimsli. A nice spot for bathing in the lake or the river.


Heiahorn (4 hours - Demanding)

Heiahorn is the highest mountain in Strand, 774m above sea level. There is a breathtaking view from the top. Parking at the lake Liarvatnet in Dalen. Pass the old farm and continue over the stream. Steep climb to the top.


Ådnahovet (1 hour - Easy)

Good woodland path, several alternatives, all ending in Tøgevågen, where you can swim and picnic.

Longaneset (1 hour - Easy)

Good woodland path. There is a peninsular on the lake Nordvatnet with good picnic and bathing facilities.

Tau Fort (1 hour - Easy)

Start on the Alsvik road by the cattle guard. Woodland road through dense forest leads to a closed gate. Halfway to the gate on your right is a path along the fjord leading to Marshovet beacon.

Taurafjellet (1 hour - Medium)

Park at the blue office building at Tau (close to the Statoil station). Steep climb to the top, but you are rewarded with beautiful views over the whole area. Alternative return over Tau Fort.

Fiskå (1 hour - Easy)

Woodland path with informative signs about local wildlife and plants. Easy walk from the school's car park down towards lake Vostervatnet where you find a nice picnic area. Suitable for children.

Moldhesten (3 hours - Easy)

Start at the car park at the barrier in Holtaheia. Open country up to Moldhesten with beautiful views over Årdal. A fork on the path brings you to Ormakammen. You return along lake Krokavatnet.

Holtaheia (2 hours - Medium)

Start at the car park at the barrier in Holtaheia. Steep climb up to the monument commemorating the lost lives of 33 British school children and 6 adults in a plane crash in 1961.
